Beauty and the Beast hit theatres this past weekend with record-breaking openings. For me, the movie called to mind the ever popular 1991 song, “Be Our Guest!” Composed and produced by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, it has proven to be one of the greatest salutations to dinner. That being said, let’s talk invitations!
As I’ve stated before, invitations set the tone for your event. Unless you plan on throwing a lackluster party, you shouldn’t send lackluster invitations. In this era of email, social media, and texting, putting together an invitation can be a lost art. Whether your event is a casual house party or a black tie affair, the invitation is a guest’s first impression to your event. The invitation should be one-of-a-kind and wow your guests. It should be designed specifically for your fantastic event. And most importantly the invitation should create a sense of excitement and anticipation for the party. A lavish invitation implies a more formal affair; whereas a less ornate invite would be used for a more casual party. You should also coordinate the color of the invitation with the color scheme of your event. A lot can be communicated on that little piece of paper, so put some effort into it. Additionally, don’t underestimate the importance of the envelope and packaging – consider how it’s addressed, stamped, and even delivered along with the way it will be opened. The idea is to provide your guests with as much information as possible without explicitly stating it all.
A paper invitation isn’t for every occasion. There are instances in which an online invitation may be more appropriate, but it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t follow the same rules. I would be hard-pressed to say no to the digital invitation below!
