For the past 5 or more years, I have hosted a gathering in my home for my girlfriends on December 23rd. It has come to be known as my Annual Christmas Eve Eve party. It’s a moment for all of us to unwind from the last minute Christmas shopping and holiday parties. And the date is usually perfect because most of us have started our holiday vacations, but it is before family traditions kick off the next day. It is a time for us to catch up, have fun, and eat (of course)!
A few years ago, Amber and Richerica suggested that I incorporate Vision Boards into the annual festivities, and I also started incorporating a different theme each year. With the popularity of Beyonce’s “Lemonade” album and because this year has been full of surprises and challenges, I decided this year would be a Lemonade Party!
Each of the ladies received one of these super cute invitations that I found at Rifle Paper Co. The invitation summoned them to my Lemon Orchard for a Winter Garden Party. I also sent a text message alerting each of them to check their mailboxes, and I used Beyonce’s Instagram teaser to build anticipation!
Next came the fun part – transforming my home into a lemon orchard, creating a complimentary menu, and putting together the parting gifts! A picnic setting was ideal for the dining space since it was a winter garden party. I decided to create a garden wall with eclectic frames in the craft space. This allowed the vision boards to be easily accessed by guests while also being incorporated into the design. I put up a flocked Christmas tree adorned with sugared lemons, and the parting gift baskets were placed underneath the tree atop a fur tree skirt. The baskets included blank journals with a pen for our 2017 bullet-journaling, snow-kissed lemon soap to get the dirt of 2016 off, a Let’s Make Lemonade tea towel with Beyoncé’s lemonade recipe printed on it, and a glass bottle to enjoy that oh so delicious lemonade.
The menu included Lemon Rice and Chicken Soup, Baked Lemon Pepper Chicken Drumettes, Lump crab meat, cheese, lemon and dill dip with parmesan bread, savory dill butter monkey bread, Lemon snowdrop cookies, and Vodka Pear Lavender Lemonade.
Ultimately, the evening was a success! This just goes to show that any space can be transformed with a little creativity and willingness to change things around.
